Resurrection Eggs

Based on the book of Luke

Studying the book of Luke this year?

Have your kids create Resurrection Eggs based on the Gospel of Luke! Follow the instructions below to help kids dive deep into Luke’s gospel. All you need is 12 plastic Easter eggs, an egg carton, and the following supplies:

  • 3 silver coins

  • Small goblet

  • Piece of yarn

  • Feather

  • Purple cloth

  • Cross

  • Dice

  • Black Paint

  • White cloth

  • Flower

  • Stone

Cut out the slips of paper to put in each egg.  Then place the item that matches in the egg with the slip of paper.  Have a friend or family member open each egg in order, and tell them what Luke recorded about the first Easter.

Egg 1 - Coins (Judas Agrees to Betray Jesus)

Then Satan entered Judas, called Iscariot, one of the Twelve. And Judas went to the chief priests and the officers of the temple guard and discussed with them how he might betray Jesus. They were delighted and agreed to give him money. He consented, and watched for an opportunity to hand Jesus over to them when no crowd was present.

Luke 22:3-6

Egg 2 - Cup (Lord’s Supper)

And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.”  In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.

Egg 3 - Yarn (Jesus tied up and brought to Pilate)

Then seizing him, they led him away and took him into the house of the high priest. Peter followed at a distance.

Egg 4 - Feather (Peter denied Jesus before the rooster crowed)

About an hour later another asserted, “Certainly this fellow was with him, for he is a Galilean.”  Peter replied, “Man, I don’t know what you’re talking about!” Just as he was speaking, the rooster crowed.

Egg 5 - Purple cloth (Soldiers mocked Jesus when He was on trial)

The chief priests and the teachers of the law were standing there, vehemently accusing him. Then Herod and his soldiers ridiculed and mocked him. Dressing him in an elegant robe, they sent him back to Pilate.

Luke 23:10-11

Egg 6 - Cross (Simon from Cyrene carried the cross for Jesus)

As the soldiers led him away, they seized Simon from Cyrene, who was on his way in from the country, and put the cross on him and made him carry it behind Jesus.

Egg 7 - Dice (Cast lots for His clothes)

Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”  And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.

Egg 8 - Black Paint to paint the inside of the egg (Darkness when Jesus died)

It was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon, for the sun stopped shining. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two.  Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.”  When he had said this, he breathed his last.

Luke 23:44-46

Egg 9 - White Cloth (Joseph took Jesus down and wrapped His body)

Then he took it down, wrapped it in linen cloth and placed it in a tomb cut in the rock, one in which no one had yet been laid.

Egg 10 - Flower (The women prepared spices and perfumes for the body)

The women who had come with Jesus from Galilee followed Joseph and saw the tomb and how his body was laid in it.  Then they went home and prepared spices and perfumes. But they rested on the Sabbath in obedience to the commandment.

Luke 23:55-56

Egg 11 - Stone (The stone was rolled away)

On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb.  They found the stone rolled away from the tomb

Luke 24:1-2

Egg 12 - Empty (The tomb was empty)

but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.  “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen!”
